Grade 2 Unit 7 Modules 7 & 8: Money and Time
Module 7 presents an opportunity for students to identify the most popular bills and coins and apply their knowledge of coins and bills values, place value strategies, and the properties of operations to solve addition and subtraction word problems to find the total value of a group. Students use decomposition of a dollar (100 ones = 10 tens = 1 hundred) and make change from one dollar using counting on and number bonds. Students will use coins and bills to solve addition and subtraction word problems involving two-digit money amounts.
In Module 8, students tell time to the nearest five minutes using both analog and digital clocks. They construct simple clocks. They also use their understanding of skip-counting by fives and tens to tell time on an analog clock Finally, students apply their learning by calculating time intervals of hours and half hours
